As innovations like connected automated vehicles (CAVs) disrupt mobility as we know it, new safety challenges will keep emerging. SAFE-UP is proactively designing and analysing safety-critical scenarios in a highly automated and mixed traffic environment by integrating traffic accident data and future traffic conditions with new forms of safety metrics and sub-microscopic models in a traffic simulation platform.

PIONEERS investigated and assessed the direct contribution to the reduction of fatalities and severity of injuries, as well as the number of injured Powered Two Wheelers (PTW) users by developing new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and On-Board Safety Systems, improving the validation and assessment methods and increasing the usage rate of such devices.
In the Safe2Wheelers Cost Action all the stakeholders followed a new collaborative approach made of shared, societally oriented objectives and evidence-based methodologies with a holistic and integrated approach towards Powered Two Wheeler safety. The focus was on Accidentology, Driver Behaviour, Traffic Environment and Technical solutions.
MOTORIST focused on making PTW use safer, through a clear strategy that was pursued according to the following specific objectives: i) improvement of PTW safety by enhancing and optimizing the methods for rider training; ii) developing active safety systems that improve the interaction between the rider and the PTW; iii) developing personal protective equipment for the rider.
